Cinnaminson, New Jersey, April 28, 2025
Each year, Workers Memorial Day is observed on April 28. This is the same day that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established back in 1971. Workers Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have died on the job and to focus on actions to create safe and healthful workplaces for all workers.
Protecting the health and safety of workers is indeed a critical function as there were 5,283 fatal work injuries recorded in the United States in 2023, a decrease from the 5,486 in 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). BLS also reports that private industry employers reported 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2023, down 8.4% from 2022.
“These most recent figures show both fatal work injuries, and nonfatal injuries and illnesses, showed improvements,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “This is good news, but each one of these numbers still represents an individual and is a reminder that industrial hygiene and environmental, health, and safety programs are crucial for protecting workers. At EMSL Analytical, we are proud to support the efforts of Workers Memorial Day. For decades, EMSL has been offering IH and EHS laboratory testing services and resources. These include sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, monitoring instruments, inspection tools, and personal protective equipment. In addition to creating safer work environments, these testing services and resources also help to keep companies and institutions in compliance with OSHA standards.”
Several years ago, EMSL sponsored an educational video about Workers Memorial Day that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/ksB6drQOY88
